Location: 145 Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario
Position Status: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 6-month probation period
Job Summary
The Bookbinder is responsible to set up and/or operate equipment listed herein as well as any other equipment that may be classified for operation by a Bookbinder for the purposes of producing quality finished products.
Responsibilities:
- To effectively operate:
- guillotine
- equipment which uses any form of glue application in the finishing of a product
- equipment used for the purposes of slitting or scoring paper products
- equipment used for the purpose of gathering or collating flat or folded work other than any equipment which uses a printing application as well
- equipment used for the purpose of die cutting or cutting of single books or printed flat sheets
- To train and work in any area of operation as required
- To work overtime and shift as required
- To operate all equipment at maximum efficiency within specified standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Review job orders to determine job specifications such as production time and quantities required
The employee is under the direct supervision of a manager/supervisor.

Education and/or Experience
- Completed apprenticeship program and is a journeyperson bookbinder
- Experience operating:
- Polar Cutter/Guillotine
- Die Cutter (RAM)
- Kugler book line
- Collator
- Stamper (Foil)
- PAS Machine
- BPS Machine
- Hologram applicator
Requirements
- Secret Level Clearance, or ability to obtain secret level clearance
- 37.5 hours per week
- Must be able to work all shifts . 12-hour shifts, day shift, afternoon shift, night shift
- Ability to measure and perform conversions from standard and metric and count effectively
- Motor co-ordination and manual dexterity to make necessary adjustments and to set up equipment
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to lift 45 lbs on a constant basis
- Ability to lift and change blade (Guillotine)
Working Conditions:
- Standing for prolonged periods of time . up to 8 hours or more per day
- Frequent listing, twisting, turning, reaching, pulling
- Noise level is usually moderate to loud
- Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust
- Fast-paced environment subject to numerous schedule and priority changes
- Unionized environment
Shift Schedules
- All candidates must be able to work all schedules as shifts are determined by seniority.
- All candidates will be working night shifts.
- All candidates must be able to work overtime
Wages:
$28.35 per hour
All candidates must undergo a background check from CBN including . credit check, verification of work history, criminal records check, business and personal references.
