Title: Off-Shift Electrician

Location: Ottawa

General Objective:

  • To assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and industrial electrical equipment and associated electrical and electronic controls in buildings and other structures.


  • Read and interpret drawings and electrical code specifications to determine layout of new or existing installations;
  • Install, examine, replace or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components;
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance;
  • Maintain, repair, test and install electrical motors, generators, industrial storage batteries and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems;
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial electronic and electrical control systems and devices;
  • Ensure all work complies with Safety standards and all applicable codes;
  • Work with external contractors while performing maintenance or repairs to equipment or building, including the inspection of completed work to ensure it conforms to standards or industry best practices;
  • Responds to emergency equipment failures;
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs and update maintenance records.


  • Secondary school graduation diploma with a valid Certificate of Apprenticeship;
  • Trade certification;
  • 5+ years of practical experience is an asset;
  • Sound knowledge of the electrical code;
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot problems effectively;
  • Knowledge of PLC programming an asset;
  • Good understanding of safety practices;
  • Ability to understand schematics, drawings and blueprints;
  • Strong communication skills in English;
  • Strong understanding of deadlines and commitment to schedules;
  • Creative problem solving skills;
  • Basic computer knowledge (use of standard business application ie: Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, Email);
  • Stamina to stand for long periods of time;
  • Ability to work shifts as required, flexible hours and be on-call;
  • Must hold Secret level security clearance.
